A recent study on tire/pavement noise conducted by the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) demonstrated that concrete pavements are just as quiet as asphalt pavements. Through the use of appropriate placement and texturing concrete pavements can achieve noise levels comparable to those of its major competitor. Tining doesn't only produce superior traction under adverse conditions but can also aid in the control ambiant tire noise.
After years of testing and research, MDOT has adopted concrete paving designs and techniques that make concrete roads as quiet as most asphalt roads, while maintaining superior skid resistance.
